Editing Attributes

This guide provides step-by-step instructions for editing Custom Security Attributes in EmpowerID. You can update attribute descriptions and manage predefined values for attributes configured with predefined value lists.

Read-Only Properties

The following properties cannot be changed after attribute creation:

  • Attribute name
  • Data type
  • Allow multiple values setting
  • Only allow predefined values setting

Only the description and predefined values (for attributes with predefined values) can be modified.

Before editing an attribute, ensure:

Editing Attribute Descriptions

You can update attribute descriptions at any time to clarify usage or document changes.

Procedure

  1. Navigate to Resource AdminApplicationsCustom Security Attributes.

  2. Click the attribute set containing the attribute you want to edit.

  3. In the Active Attributes list, locate the attribute to modify.

  4. Click the Edit button next to the attribute.

  5. Update the Description field with new or revised information.

  6. Click Save to apply the changes.

The updated description appears in the Active Attributes list.

Managing Predefined Values

For attributes configured with predefined values, you can add new values or remove existing ones.

Value Removal Impact

Removing predefined values has different effects in each system:

Microsoft Entra ID:

  • Value is marked as "Inactive"
  • Remains in the system for historical reference
  • Cannot be assigned to new objects

EmpowerID:

  • Value is completely removed from available options
  • Existing assignments with this value remain visible but cannot be reapplied

Before removing values, verify that no active assignments use that value, or plan to update those assignments.

Procedure

  1. Navigate to Resource AdminApplicationsCustom Security Attributes.

  2. Click the attribute set containing the attribute you want to edit.

  3. In the Active Attributes list, click Edit next to the attribute.

  4. To add new values:
    a. Click Add value in the Predefined values section.
    b. Enter the new value in the input field.
    c. Click the + icon or press Enter to add the value.
    d. Repeat steps a-c to add additional values.

  5. To remove values:
    a. Click the X next to the value you want to remove.
    b. The value is removed from the list.

  6. Click Save to apply all changes.
