The Resource Admin Cart

Resource Admin includes a persistent cart that holds your staged changes as you work. Each change you confirm — adding app rights, adding group members, assigning Custom Security Attributes, and so on — is held in the cart until you are ready to submit. You can accumulate changes across multiple resources and submit them together as a single request.

Cart Items Persist Between Sessions

Cart items are stored against your person context in EmpowerID, not your browser session. This means:

  • You can leave Resource Admin, close the browser, or return later and your staged items will still be there.
  • Items remain in the cart until you either submit them or delete them manually.
  • If you no longer want a staged item, you must explicitly delete it. Items are never removed automatically.
Stale cart items

Because cart items persist, review your cart before submitting to confirm all staged items are still intended. Items added in a previous session may no longer reflect your current intent.

How the Cart Is Organized

Items in the cart are organized by cart container — the primary resource a change relates to, such as an application, group, Management Role, or shared folder. Within each container, items are further grouped by assignment receiver: the person, group, or other entity receiving or losing the assignment.

The relationship between the container, receiver, and item varies depending on the type of change:

Submitting the Cart

When you are ready to submit your staged changes, open the cart by clicking the cart icon in the Resource Admin interface.

  1. Review the items in the cart and remove any you no longer intend to submit.

  2. Select a Justification from the dropdown. If you select Other Justification, a comment is required.

  3. Click Evaluate Request. EmpowerID validates the staged items against organizational policies before submission. Evaluation checks for:

    • Separation of Duties (SoD) violations — whether any combination of changes would create a policy conflict
    • Risk assessment — whether any staged changes are flagged by risk rules
    • Pre-approval eligibility — whether any items qualify for automatic fulfillment without an approval step

Evaluation does not submit the request. You can review the outcome and remove flagged items before proceeding.

  4. Enter a Business Request Name (required) and an optional Comment, then click Submit.

What Happens After Submission

The outcome depends on the approval policies configured for the resource:

OutcomeWhat It Means
Immediate fulfillmentNo approval is required; the change is applied immediately and appears in the assignments view.
Sent for approvalA Business Request is created and routed to the configured approvers; the change is pending until all required approvals are completed.

After submission, EmpowerID displays a confirmation and a link to track the request status.

Tracking Approval Status

When approval is required, approvers receive a task in My Tasks. You can also monitor the request from My Tasks:

  • The Process Steps tab shows the current approval step and the assigned approvers.
  • The Item View shows fulfillment status for each item.
  • Common status values: Open, Approved – Fulfillment Not Started, Approved – Fulfillment Succeeded.

See About My Tasks for more about the My Tasks application.
